Monday Makeover

Okay, I lied. I am going to do a Makeover Monday post anyway because I have calmed down and still need your input.

You may remember that I picked up this ceiling medallion a week or so ago at ReStore…….

I looked at this and thought mirror, not ceiling medallion. With a bit of paint, some lacquer and a mirror we have this

No, I don’t have rocks on my walls. I just haven’t figured out where I want to hang it yet! Total cost on this was $2.50 and some time to paint. It is 16” in diameter total and the mirror is 6”.

Next up- The free headboard. This thing was so ugly, but I loved the lines on it.

This became my first ever spray painted project and I think that I am hooked. Now here is my quandary…..I had planned to paint it a couple of colors to make the inset panels pop out, similar to how it looked above. The problem is that I sort of like it with just one solid color. No, that isn’t it, the problem is that I can’t decide on what the right color should be to highlight the panels!

Anyway, here it is

Call this my almost MadeOver Monday! What color or color family would you add to this? The bedding that I already have is a brown tapestry with goldish, almost light bronze, accents. I REALLY want to stay away from straight gold. I know that this is a very “ungirly” thing to say, but I HATE gold.

This baby is ready and waiting for your suggestions. I think that Mr. A is getting tired of some of my unfinished projects, so I need to get this one done. We also have guests coming soon and since this is for the guest room….well you see what I am saying.

Thanks for your help and thanks for playing this fabulous game of life with me!

Also, blame all of this on Kimba from A Soft Place to Land and her tweet. I was ready to call it a night.

I think you should distress it! It would look really cool to paint over the brown with like robin's egg blue. But rub candle wax on all the edges to the paint will come off in places and maybe use some crackle paint underneath so it has some large cracks in it. Then sand it a little too. It would look like a bed Frida Kahlo would have had!

Oh but that wouldn't match the bedding. Maybe distress it with some gold leaf and dark glaze over top?

The medallion mirror came out lovely. I have to do this. Maybe make a wall collage out of several in different sizes... cute!

Loving the headboard! I'm with you though, I HATE gold. How about black as the accent color. Or perhaps a lighter brown with a slightly gold hue to it?

Thanks for putting this post together and linking it up to Monday Makeovers. Check back tomorrow to see if your project has been selected as a finalist. :-)

I love the mirror! I don't know what to recommend on the headboard, as I'm just awful with paint and paint choices. I'll leave that to one of the ladies who is more experienced in this area!

Great makeovers! I think some distressing is a good idea. Or what about going over it with some sort of wash? Just a little hint of color on top of the paint?

I love the headboard! I could definitely see distressing it. Personally, that look doesn't fit in my house though (though I love it in other people's homes!). I could see highlighting it with white. It would be a great stark contrast. Or whatever color is in the room that you want it to go in. I could see decorating the panels with vinyl, too...either pretty designs or even words.

black is something that I didn't even think of Falling Around. That would tie it in with the rest of the house.

I was also thinking of using wallpaper or scrapbook paper in the inserts like Roots suggested.....

My mind is percolating with new ideas. Thanks!

The headboard has so much pattern going on, I would resist adding too much more detail. But I do love it. I would probably take a watered down bronze glaze to the framed edges of the panels and the posts, just to give part of it a bit of sheen. Other than that, I'd leave it alone. It's fabulous !

I LOVE what you did to make the mirror and I also love the headboard. I agree with the comment above and would go with brown and blue for the paint colors. I just love that combo.

I really like the mirror. We just had a Restore open in our area, but I haven't had a chance to get there. Sorry, I'm no help on the headboard. I would probably do white or ivory, but that doesn't seem creative enough. Good luck with it.

The headboard looks great so far, and you've got some good suggestions! I was just going to be boring and suggest painting the interior square panels cream or white.
