A Mountain of Burlap, Some Denim, & a Touch of Copper

Oh NO! This is the last week of Thrifty Treasures at Southern Hospitality. I can’t thank Rhoda enough for hosting Thrifty Treasures every week. It has been a grand entrance for me into the thrifting world all around the country.  Thanks Rhoda!

On with the loot. I have mention before that Art is in the grocery business and brings home some great, if not quirky, finds. One night last week he came home and asked, “Didn’t you say that you wanted some more burlap sacks?” I said, “YES!”

His next day off we jumped in the truck and drove to SLO Roasted. It is a local coffee roaster that sells their beans all over the county. What we found was MOUNTAINS of burlap sacks that had held the beans prior to roasting. There were pallets full of empty sacks!

I grabbed a stack and the manager was pleading with us to take more. It seems that they have a hard time getting rid of them!

I now have them spread out and airing on the patio. The raw coffee bean smell is pretty harsh, but seems to be fading.

Some have great graphics and I can’t wait to get to cutting and sewing with them. I have no idea what I am going to make, but I know that I have enough burlap.

Next up, a consignment store opened near me a few months ago, but I just got in there this week. (I found a coupon online for 20% off the total purchase and just had to check it out)

Even better than the coupon, it seems that there is someone else living in my area that has freakishly long legs and a love of jeans! I have a heck of a time finding jeans at even full price in my size and I brought home 5 pairs this week. Thanks to the coupon and probably due to the fact that few in the area wear size o jeans with a 32-34” inseam, I got all 5 pairs for less than $20! Yeah Calvin, Abercrombie, and Gap!

Last, but not least, I got this copper platter at of all places, the Home-Do-It Center for 50 cents.

Let’s see, the burlap sacks were free, the jeans my mom paid for (THANKS MOM!), and the platter was 50 cents. That is one thrifty week!

Those bags are great. You'll probably have burlap-mad women besieging you for the address!

The coffee bags are really great! There is a mom & pop store here that I thought I'd check with and see if they get bags, but havent had a chance yet.

That was a thrifty week! Now I want you to get up in the morning and RUN, don't walk to that coffee shop and get all of the rest of them!!!! You could make a decent chunk of change selling those! Seriously!
Then I'll send you my address and you can give me my burlap commission for steering you in the right direction. ;) hahahaha! Unless you're really gonna do it. Then I'm serious. ;)
Totally off subject, but I love the photo of the jeans with the stones. Very pretty. I'm a weirdo like that!

Gwen, Mr. Sullivan was tickled with your remark about the gavel! As long as he doesn't come after me with it, he can do whatever he wants with it!
We were quite lucky with what we found this past week. I do want to hit some auctions with him, though. Who knows what we will find? Oh, I will e-mail you a picture of a feedsack that I saw at the flea market this weekend. Too cute an idea...
Hope all is well. too bad there have been no good sales for you to find goodies. It's either dry or a major flood here, too. I've been in a draught before these last few sales. I'm taking a fellow blogger with me on
Tues. to an estate sale. Hope we find goodies...

I cannot believe you are a size 0? Holy cow, girl, I don't seriously think there WAS a size 0 when I was growing up- junior sizes started at 3, as far as I remember. But then, that was a long time ago....LOL The memory goes, but the weight doesn't. of course, if I would stop eating garbage, that would help...
take care friend~
hugs, Sue

I can't wait to see what you'll do with those sacks. I thought the jeans were going to be part of the project when I saw the photo. My "little" sis is 6'2" and all leg and has a heck of a time with finding jeans. She got the blonde hair and blue eyes too, darn it!

Thanks for the sweet comment. We started blogging about the same time. It was easy to become your fiend because you are so sweet and funny. And real. And I love your dog. Nuff said!

Those burlap bags are great! Would love to see what you do with them. I'm tempted to find a coffee roaster to see if they have any free bags ... thanks for sharing!

Great sacks, and I'm glad I'm not the only one who was wondering if you could turn a bit of a profit with them on Etsy.

I'm glad you scooped on the jeans, too. My hubby has long, long legs (although I doubt he's a size 0!) so I know how frustrating it can be. Don't resort to wearing the sacks just yet!

Hi, Gwen! Thanks for visiting over at my blog.
Wow! You really did get some good loot! I know what you mean about the long jeans. All my height is in my legs, and I need a 33/34 inseam. Those are really hard to find outside of retail. I've found a lot of times, someone has shortened them when they say long.
Have fun with the burlap.

Can't wait to see what you make with those sacks. Even the writing on them is exciting.
