Sunny Thank You for the Sunshine You Gave to Us

Monday, turned out to be another tough day in our household. We lost dear Sunny/Sonny.

Now, I will be the first to admit, it took a while for me to enjoy Sunny when he came to live with us. Check out my old post, When Animals Attack to see why. Still, we had gotten to be great friends and constant companions while I was reading. (Murphy tends to try and sit in my lap, not so conducive to reading)

Lately he had just hadn’t been as spry as he used to be and spent a lot of time eating grass only to puke it back up. He seemed to adjust to the move better than Murphy, who hasn’t left my side, but something wasn’t right.

He also bit me again, but I had my heavy knock-off Ugg boots on, so there was no emergency trip involved.

It had gotten to the point that while he was sleeping, I would actually watch him for a bit to make sure that he was breathing. I told myself that it was silly, but Monday morning, he wasn’t when I checked.

He would have been 13 later this month and while the time he spent with me was short, it will be memorable. I just have to look at the scars on my arm and he will be with me.

Art’s daughter is not taking it well. Sunny was the dog that she grew up with, dressed him in tutus and floppy hats. I can relate to that feeling, each step and loss in your 20’s means you are leaving your childhood one more step behind. So much in her life has drastically changed in the past few years and I wish that I could make time standstill for all of us.

All I can say is that I was glad to know Sunny and pleased that she trusted me enough to give him a home when he needed one.

Sunny thank your for your smiles. You went from being the new sheriff in town to having a big place in my heart.

Awww, Gwenn, I am so very sorry for all of you. I know and remember well Sunny's coming into your home and the uh...transition wasnt as smooth as one would like. But I also know neither is Sunny's passing. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
I bid Sunny farewell to as he travels into the sunset of a new life. Happy Trails & Tails.

I do not know you well, only what I have read in Blossom's blog and from your own, I did read about the dog attack. What I mean to say is that it takes a big heart to let this animal mean so much to you in such a short time, after what he did you. I am sorry about the loss of a pet. They really do mean so much to us. Thank you for sharing.

Oh Gwen, I'm so sorry. I know you did all you could to let Sonny be a part of the family. It seemed like everyone was finally adjusting. His behavior was probably a sign of his failing health, poor guy. I'm glad you and he found some companionship while reading.

Poor Muphy is probably so confused by all the changes lately. He's probably picking up on your stress over all that's happend. When you're able to get settled in and relax he will too.
Hugs,
Dawn

I'm sorry to hear about Sunny Gwen. He was one lucky dog that you opened up your home and heart to him.

Hi Gwen,
I was sorry to read about Sunny's passing. I never had a pet growing up and because of that I never really considered myself an animal lover. All that changed after I was finally convinced by my then 11 year old son that we needed a dog. Fast forward almost 8 years and I can't get enough of our wire hair fox terrier, Denali. It's amazing how fast our pets can steal our hearts. Even though you didn't start out on perfect terms, I know you'll have wonderful memories of Sunny.
Thanks for sharing your story with us.

Gwen,

So sorry Sunny died. We are trying to prepare ourselves for that day -- Buster will be 14 on Halloween -- and is slowing down. It truly is losing an old friend.

Gwennie, I'm so sorry - I've been checking in at CandD more than here, and I didn't know...I could cry.

Our Chiligirl is 12.5 and acting hinky - it's killing me, I know our time together is short now. Makes my heart hurt. I'm thinking of you.

:( My pup is a mere four years old but I know all to well the pain of a dog's passing from my own childhood dog having to be put to sleep when she was in too much pain to enjoy her life anymore. I hope that my girl will go peacefully in her sleep many, many years from now. It is amazing how much animals become a part of our lives.

I just read last night that Deborah's dog Buster is gone. So sad. I dread the day Jack's dog Murray leaves us.
