House Hunting Day 1

This week we decided that it was time to start looking for a house to buy. Yeah us!

If you haven’t been here, you can see that we found out that our rental is basically killing me and we have put off doing anything about it for long enough. That, and we are tired of throwing money out the window, not being able to go total DIY crazy, and it is just time to put down some serious roots in our relationship lives.

Long story short, we went and looked at this charmer today.image 1608441384-0

Beach cottage, right price, 3/2, pretty good views of the bay, nice lot, yada yada yada. I was really thrilled to looked at it. That is, until we walked in and were over-powered by the stench of cat urine!

OMG! It was awful. Seriously, my nose was all plugged up from allergies and I was still gagging. The agent tried to play it off, “Yeah, I think they had a cat…”  Ya think? They should have been handing out gas masks at the door!

So not the way that I wanted to start this serious house buying adventure. We will keep looking and live to search another day.

Have you ever looked inside a house and been scared? I wonder how those people lived like that?

When we looked at houses what always creeped me out was when the owners were there while we were looking. It just made it awkward. We never saw any truly gross/outrageous houses, but it wasn't as fun or glamorous as I thought it'd be. I hope you find the perfect home for you all. I look forward to hearing about your house hunting adventures. :-)

Good luck in the house search Gwen. You must be very excited!

We are not ready for househunting yet, but I am itching to get to that point. I have the feeling that, when we do we will find a lot more like the one you saw today, as we will be looking for a real fixer upper:) At least we have good connection to a private steam cleaning company:)

I hope you find something you love. Tom and I had the pleasure of doing this "not so" fun task twice. I have a funny story for u. The dream house I had my eye on for more then 3 yrs came up on the market and in our price range. We were convinced we were going to buy it. We did a walk through, & It made the hair on our arms stick straight up. It was so creepy,I was afraid to look furhter incase we found bones or something worse. On our way out I noticed a closet 1/2 way open,I took a peek inside and there were a bunch of monitors with all the rooms, garage, & outside vacinity showing up on them, apparently they had hidden cameras everywhere. Why? It was in a low crime area. He couldn't fear anyone taking anything as the agents are always with the clients. It was bizzare. I tried to de-creep myself and get past it but to no avail.. We ended up buying the townhouse u helped us move from.

Well, there was the time we couldn't take a step without hearing the crunch of ticks underfoot.

Ooh, now you've got me excited - I love house-hunting, even the virtual kind!
I hope you find something truly and wonderful and quickly, but if not, remember, it's awful ones like these (where other buyers walk in, gag, and say 'no way') where there are bargains to be had. The trick is in figuring out whether you can reliably get the smell out, and whether your relationship with Art can stand the trauma.
Very much looking forward to more news!!

Back to say... Girl, you can name my blog anytime, that was PERFECT! You should consider offering blog analysis and renaming as a public service.

Too bad the house didn't turn out to be your dream home after all.

Maybe the cat owners just failed to notice the smell after having lived with cats for a long time and getting used to it?

I was lucky when I bought my apartment. It was brand new, no one had lived here before me. I saw the ad for it in the newspaper and just went straight to the real estate agency and said I'll buy it right now, as it was just what I had been looking for for a whole year. I knew the area well. I've been here for 7 years now, and still love living here. Just doing some refurbishing this spring as nothing has been done since I moved in.

Ah, the challenge of house hunting. We had always bought new houses until we moved over the river. Then we rented for a long while until we decided where to settle, and let me tell you, those were some seriously scary places to see. The worst was one that had been "used" by 3 or 4 single guys, and the landlords weren't real involved. There I was with my two daughters, and the posters on the walls were so bad I've blocked them out of my memory. The place was filthy. It's sad to think that people live like that.
I sure hope your next trip is much better. You have my sympathy.

But that means it must have been a screaming bargain? Scary!

You have inspired me to always change my litter box a day early.
