Get your mind out of the gutter. I picked up a great dresser last week and I am still dancing my deal’s praises.
I have been chillin’ with my friend Craig, you know CraigsList, for a while chatting up dressers when I came across this beauty.
I know that she doesn’t look like much in this picture, but she is a classic beauty made of Elm wood and all decked out in dovetailed finery.
The best part was the price, $25 for an antique dresser! I know many of you will ask, “What color are ya gonna paint her?” I am not going to touch her. She is perfect just the way she is and I have an aversion to painting antiques if they are in pretty good shape.
Now my all of my unmentionables have a home and they no longer have to share with Art’s in his dresser. They are almost as excited as I am. (Yes, I asked my socks what they thought and they cheered!)

Oh how I giggled over the image of a drawer full of socks cheering. :D
That is a beautiful piece! And I'm really quite glad you're not going to paint it. While I'm not against painting furniture (I've been threatening my 70's style bed for months) I always look at my great aunt's gorgeous dark wood sidetables...that she painted a slime color long ago. I still don't have them all stripped yet. Ugh.
$25 is definitely a good price for that! I don't blame you for not wanting to paint it - looks like it's really in good shape.

What a great deal! I am so happy you got lucky.
Wow, that sounded dirty.
:-P
I wouldn't paint her either Gwen...I love pieces that have great patina...they speak to you and there is beauty in an aged appearance. You just have to look at us! LOL!! Yeah, you can say it..."speak for yourself".
She certainly was a great find at $25.
Warmest hugs,

Great find girl. To paint or not to paint, that is the question. I agree, I only paint good furniture if it really needs it. I like patina!
I'm glad I came by, I almost forgot to link up with Leigh. Gotta go...
Dawn
really nice looking dresser - and I think it is a very lucky furniture piece to find a home with you.
What a super find Gwen ! You don't have to paint everything....I do agree !

That's a great find. I agree...she looks perfect as is, I love the patina of the old wood.

Yes, I worry that the trend for painting things will die out, and then we'll all be up to our knees in paint stripper.
Delighted to hear your socks have a secure future. How about you though - still looking to move?
You got a good deal on that handsome dresser!
Wow! You did really well on that! We have a "collection" of antique dressers, some of which we got from my father-in-law (He and my mil did antique mall shows.), and some from Salvation Army. If you find them in fairly good condition, cheap, they are great. My hubby doesn't like painted furniture, so most of ours have been stripped and refinished. But $25! Wow!

That's a really nice dresser Gwen. I agree that some things should be left untouched, and a great dresser is really priceless.
I found a couple of dressers via freecycle for my boys a couple of years ago, and they are still holding up. My youngest son got a cheap dresser from Kmart, but it was put together with love by my younger brother so it still has a special place in my heart.
My congratulations to your unmentionables...you crack me up...!!!
Great find, awesome price!!! What a hoot! Thanks for the distraction and thanks for the vote!
I always hesitant to paint wood. I do it on occasion, but when it's something in great shape...no way.
:)

Your dresser was a fabulous find - great price!
Hi Gwen, I just read your comment on Tricia's blog and to come over and meet this incredible woman! I loved everything you said to Tricia and I say "AMEN!" Now I'm gonna go click "follow" and read the rest of your posts!

I'm totally off-topic but I came over here to lavish praise on your suitcase collection!
Well, that's kind of weird, I think Blogger ate my comment. No matter - what I came over here to say, is, your suitcase collection is fabulous. Apologies, I know that's off topic!
Hi Gwen, What a great deal on your chest of drawers. If a piece is in good condition and suits my needs, I'll leave it as is, but if not- out comes the paint! I found an Ethan Allen chest from the 60's a couple of months ago and painted it black- it came out fantastic. I never would've used it as is with our decor. I'll have to post it for an upcoming party. Thanks for coming by to wish me well. I have my good and bad days, never know what each day will bring. I just wish it would clear up FAST!! Take care.
hugs, Sue
